Purpose and Vision of the YLF

At its core, the YLF program is about empowering young leaders to drive global efforts for nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, and peace advocacy.

Through direct interactions with survivors and exposure to the historical realities of nuclear warfare, participants will develop powerful narratives and communication skills that can shape public opinion and influence global policies. The program emphasizes storytelling and advocacy — crucial tools in the movement toward lasting peace.

How to Apply for the Youth Leader Fund (YLF) 2025 in Japan?

Ready to dive into a life-changing journey for peace? Here’s how you can grab your spot:

1. Apply Online:
   First things first – you’ll need to submit your application through the official YLF website. The good news? No application fee, no IELTS exam. Just pure enthusiasm and a bit of your time!
2. Selection Process:
   About 100 participants will be chosen for the online foundation course. Think of it as your personal launchpad, packed with eLearning modules, workshops, and live webinars, all designed to sharpen your knowledge about nuclear disarmament and peacebuilding.
3. Complete the Online Course:
   Dedicate about 4–6 hours a week to the course, participate actively, and boom — you’ll be on your way to earning a certificate from the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA).
4. Travel to Japan (for 50 lucky ones!):
   If you ace the online phase, you might just find yourself packing for an unforgettable six-day, fully funded trip to Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 2026. Imagine standing in the Peace Parks, learning directly from hibakusha (atomic bombing survivors), and organizing youth-led events — pretty powerful stuff!
5. Become a Mentor:
   And guess what? After completing the program, you’ll have the chance to mentor future YLF participants, carrying the torch forward for a nuclear-free world.
